Welcome back to Thursdays After Lunch

This week’s newsletter takes the form of a podcast episode, in which I’m chatting to fellow West Australian author Brooke Dunnell about her second novel, Last Best Chance (Fremantle Press, 2024).

And a heads-up for anyone who may find this triggering, we will be discussing fertility issues and IVF.

Also, before you dive in, this is a self-produced podcast using very basic recording and editing tools, not yet a slick operation! I may need to get myself a better microphone, but in the meantime I would love some feedback on the audio quality of this recording.

Thanks Brooke for joining me as my first ever guinea pig … I mean, guest!

Last Best Chance

With her biological clock ticking, Rachel embarks on a clandestine mission to an Central European fertility clinic. There, in the chilly heart of the nation’s capital, expat Jess revels in her life with Viktor, despite struggling to make ends meet. When a green energy expo comes to the overlooked city, Jess uses the opportunity to kickstart a business venture, while Rachel fears the heightened scrutiny might jeopardise her chance for a child. When the two women meet, they do not know it, but each has something the other one needs.

Brooke will launch Last Best Chance next week at a combined event with Deborah Pike (The Players, Fremantle Press, 2024) ~ Manning Library on Friday 17th May, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Tickets are free but booking is essential.
